BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that it is sad if India`s message to the United States is true about the issue of Bangladesh`s upcoming parliamentary elections and the support of current government to return to power. He also commented that India is directly interfering in the internal affairs of Bangladesh if the message is true.
He said these things in response to a question from journalists after visiting Ziaur Rahman`s shrine on Saturday on the occasion of the 43rd founding anniversary of Secha Sebok Dal.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that if the letter sent by India to the United States on the Bangladesh issue is true, it will be unexpected and sad. This cannot be expected from a democratic country like India.
At that time, BNP Secretary General also said, "India cannot interfere in the internal political affairs of Bangladesh. There is no chance of radicalization in the country. There never was."
He said, "I hope that India will give dignity to the democratic aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, and support an acceptable election with the participation of all parties."
A report by the online version of popular Indian media `Anandabazar` said on Friday that New Delhi has sent a message to Washington that it will not be pleasant for both India and the United States if the government led by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is weakened. The Indian administration also feels that the US should not have announced a separate visa policy only for Bangladesh.
In the report titled- "If Sheikh Hasina is weakened, everyone will suffer. This is a message to America". New Delhi believes that if Bangladesh`s is weakened, it will not be good for India and America. According to diplomatic sources, New Delhi communicated this to the US administration at multiple levels of meetings.
The report also says, "New Delhi`s statement is, India wants a fair and free election in Bangladesh just like the US wants. But the way various steps are being taken by the US to destabilize the current Bangladesh government, it is not positive for the overall security of India as a neighboring country as well as South Asia."
It is also said, "Three weeks later, American President Joe Biden and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will sit on the same stage in New Delhi. Before that, this message from India is considered to be significant enough. South Block thinks that if Jamaat-e-Islami is given `political concession` Dhaka will be taken over by fundamentalism in the near future. The liberal environment that exists will no longer exist."
